New project

Postby Bareass172 » Sat Jan 19, 2013 10:52 pm

I had mentioned that I have another bike in the works, I hadn't posted pics yet but here we go...

Unfinished, uncleared paint - not even the fender or side covers yet... Just a little taste, I think this is going to be the nicest one I've done yet. As I type this I have boxes of OEM chrome and aftermarket stuff all waiting to go back together and I'm chomping at the bit to get it done. Hopefully I'll be better about doing the pics this time than my slacker ass has done with the Candy pics from 2011... :wistl:

Is this the one you were looking for a set of Bubs pipes for? :pop:

You do know that Tassy's little post on VTXOA about that cost me money that I really did not need to spend. :scream: His post made me go back to an email from DLP that I got and deleted, but remembered it had something mentioning Bubs. I checked it out in my trash folder and noticed the killer deal they are running on Bubs. :cpu: So now YOU made me buy a set. :wall: It is also YOUR fault that I will have to buy something shinny for the wife to appease her. :kissit: Thanks a lot pal. :x

It's cool though. I really wanted those pipes in the first place years ago, but cheaped out. My Cobra's are looking a little ratty now anyway. So bring on the noise.

It is the same bike, but how did you find Bub's at DLP? I looked on DLP's website and they don't even show Bub as a brand anymore. I called to verify and they said they don't carry Bub...

Please let me know what deal you got, I'm interested because I had a helluva time tracking down a set.

I don't know what's going on with Bub, but something is up. I put in the order with them back in November and they told me the pipes were at the chromer but would ship within 4-6 weeks when they came back. Now 4-6 weeks for chrome is excessive, but whatever... So I hit them back in December to check on progress and they tell me that their laser is broken so they can't cut heat shields. No mention of previously stating they were already made and at the chromer... They didn't give me a date so I asked how long it would take to fix the laser, they said expect shipment by mid to late January. I hit them up again about 1-2 weeks ago to check progress and they now tell me end of February... :wall:

This prompted me to start calling around to see if anyone else had them in stock where I could buy them - several of the places I called said they had been having the same problems with Bub, some dating back as far as July of 2012. Everyone had been given a different story on the reasons, but no one had been able to get product.

So sorry, but tell your wife she's welcome. :nana: :nana: :nana:

Well that infuriates me... I specifically CALLED THEM the other day because I couldn't find "Bub" under their manufacturer listing or their exhaust listing. When I asked they said they didn't deal with any Bub products at all. :bomb:

Thanks for the post, I really appreciate the info. Ever since Drew left DLP a few months back their service has been atrocious...

It's not my bike, it's a customer's bike. I don't have any more pics right now other than what the bike looked like when it rolled in, and it's completely torn down now to the frame/motor and nothing else. I do have BOXES of stuff sitting here getting ready to go on, including almost everything on the bike that was sent out for chrome.

More pics as I get some. :pop:

Nice. I have a couple of boxes of stuff waiting to go on as well. Very familiar with that feeling. Post a before then or post it when you get all done to show the before and after. I ordered Vance & Hines exhaust today. Kind of excited for that to get here. I also just found a local chrome shop and a local powder coat shop. Getting excited to go back to work and make more money now.lol

That is a nice looking design on the bike. I will be watching this thread. Is that what you do then? Fix bikes and restore/rebuild and customize them?

Well, damn. I already purchased a ton of new things for the bike. I wish I knew. With the quality of work and quality of threads, I would bet you sell nothing but, quality products. If I am in need of something, I will check here first. I work seasonal jobs. When I work it is always 10-16 hrs a day 6-7 days a week straight through. I have already blown/ear marked my wad from this last job but, I will be keeping that in mind. Thank you.

2 more pics, still not cleared and the lighting is rough, but you get the idea.

To give you an idea of how off the color is, the bottom orange color is the stock Honda orange from the 1300's.

I need to update with some more pics but I just got back in town so I'm playing a little catch up. I have some pics of chrome and finished/cleared paint.

Paint arrives tomorrow, chromed parts started going together tonight and will continue through tomorrow and Sunday. I expect to be riding it in 10 days to 2 weeks unless unexpected problems arise, and luckily I'm pretty good at planning so not much is usually unexpected. :thumb:

Been working on it and also been sick the last couple days so I've either been sleeping or working, lol... Pics will come soon, I just haven't taken the time to get good, new pics - especially since the paint got here. The paint is incredible, as expected, now to just start getting it all together. I've been doing all the rebuilding of small bits - brake calipers, forks, internally wiring the bars, etc so that when parts start going on it will happen very quickly. Hope to have pics soon. :pop:

I feel you, no worries. I know how is goes when you are in the middle of a project. One thing leads to another and another. It is never ending at times. I spent 2 months on my bike but, could have spent 6 months.
