Bestest Cheapest...

Postby Taxi » Sun Jun 29, 2008 10:24 pm

I've done a bit of research, and found most full and flip helmets - well, really all - meet and surpass the necessary standards. So I imagine it comes down to what helmets people like. What helmets do you guys stand by...any more comfortable at the low to mid price ranges? I have been leaning towards HJC CL-15 series, but I'm not stuck on that if someone has a better suggestion.

Appreciate any advice,
Taxi

I always use to use a Full face )Shoei X-11) and loved it. I had read posts in the past that many flip helmets on a crash would pop open and provide little protection.

A few years ago I did some research also and that that most flip helmets did not seem safe. I could be wrong but I always found that cheap is cheap and quality costs. I ended up purchasing a schuberth C-2 flip helmet. This helmet is used by the motorcycle police in many countries in Europe, especially Germany.

now there are some important issues with the Schuberth helmets. First, they do not fit everyones head. People have different head shapes and only certain head shapes fit the Schuberth. Oh, let me note that Schuberth makes helments for car racing and they are known as a quality company.

The Schuberth helemt size wise runs smaller then other helmets. I use a medium with a Shoei and a large with a Schuberth. You need to try the helmet on. To do this go to most BMW dealers as they carry the helmet - but do not buy them there. I buy them new on the internet.

The Schuberth helmets are heavier then Shoei's or Arais's but they fit lower on the hed so you do not feel the weight.

The Schuberths have some wonderful function that I love. IT controls air flow better. it allows for airflow even with the visor closed - but the visor can push forward so it is still closed but allows for air flow. It has an internal sun glass pop down function to assist with daytime vs evening riding.

Now the Schuberth is not the only good helmet but... IT is not cheap. I paid about $450.00 on the internet for a new one (the BMW dealers sell it for over $600.00)

With something as important as your head and your life, I prefer not to go cheap...

I went down once about 3 years ago with the Shoei on. If I was not wearing a helment or a good one, I would have lost a part of my head and been scared for life.

Just my opinion.

good luck with your decision.

i got a fs-10 hjc with a inner sunshield that was kind cool, thn i got it and its very funtional and the liner it very comfy, the best part is, some how they stabilized the helmet in heavy wind, i hated helmets my old hjc felt like you had people pushing you head side to side behind semis or in winds. git it for 176 off ebay had to wait a week to find the good deal but well worth it

I heard you grabbed up an 110 Sabre! Congratulations. Glad to have you aboard! That is a great bike, and should be everything you need. It really runs too!
